Habits are hard to break.  Most people use Google, try some results, and if they still can't find what they are looking for, they refine the phrase and start all over.   Not many people bother to try their search at different sites.    Don't get us wrong, we love Google, but we also love sit\es like Flickr, Amazon, Windows LIve and Yahoo! 

Additionally, the Internet is heavily influenced by big companies that have significant commercial interests in driving you to one site versus another.    Startjoint helps you get more variety; a second or third opinion if you will. 

Lastily, because startjoint can be customized to include searches from desktop applications, intranet applications and other corporate systems, Startjoint allows a user to easily organize all of their different searchable sites into one easy to use interface.
